Three things that work
Campaigns about football finance usually fail in the same way: everyone agrees, and nothing is written down anywhere a decision-maker will see it. These three are chosen because each one produces something that can be pointed at.
-
Say you support this
One press of the button on any page. It asks for nothing about you and stores nothing about you — only that one more person is behind this, and, if you care to say, whether you run a club, support one, or work in the grassroots game.
-
Write to your MP
Five minutes, and the single most effective thing on this page. We will find your constituency in your own browser and give you a letter to make your own.
-
Take it to your next home game
Free print-ready flyers, a poster and a one-page explainer for your committee. This argument is won in front of people who already care.
Ways to help that cost nothing
Not everyone can print a hundred flyers, and nobody should be spending money on this. All of these are free.
- Correct us. Genuinely. The single most useful thing anyone has done for this campaign so far was checking a figure we had wrong. Every number on the site names the source it came from, so it can be checked. Send a correction.
- Send us your club's accounts. We are missing a real running-cost range for each step, and we will not invent one. If you are on a committee or in a supporters' trust, the method we will use is here.
- Tell your club. A letter from a club to an MP carries more weight than one from a supporter. There is a template in the toolkit.
- Write your club's story. Not a complaint, just what a season actually costs and who pays for it. How the stories work.
- Say it where football people are. A post on a forum, a message in a supporters' group, a word with whoever does your club's social media. There are no share widgets on this site and no tracking, so the only way this travels is people passing it on.
- Use the data. It is CC BY 4.0. If you are a journalist, a student, or someone who just likes a spreadsheet, take it. Download it here.
What we will not ask you to do
We will not ask you to boycott anything, to abuse anyone, or to stop supporting the club you support. We are not asking Premier League fans to feel guilty about enjoying the Premier League. The argument is about a structure, not about blame, and a campaign that turns into a pile-on stops being useful the day it does.
